Containing 99.999% pure silver, the American Eagle is created by the U.S Mint and backed by the United States Government. It's the only silver bullion coin that is guaranteed by the U.S Government and can also be used as currency. American Eagle Silver dollars contain 1 troy ounce of silver. Released in 1986 by the United States Mint, American Eagle Silver dollars are one of the cheapest and easiest ways to own government backed silver.
American Eagle Silver dollars were designer based on the popular Walking Liberty coin of the early 1900's. This lovely coins is created at 3 different U.S Mint facilities, one in Philadelphia, one in San Francisco and the last in West Point, New York.
Generally speaking an American Eagle Silver dollar is worth the current price of silver plus a premium depending on the coin. Most American Eagle's are not expensive except for a few different variations including the 1995W, of which just over 30,000 were produced. It may fetch as much as a few thousand dollars depending on the venue that it's sold at. Among the years with the highest number of coins produced are coins produced in 1987, 2002 and 2006, which saw around 10 million produced each of these years.
